Why I Hate AT&T This Week, & Why I Intend to Leave Them.

So…AT&T has screwed me out of my $5/month 200 message, text messaging plan after upgrading to iPhone 4S.  I’ve had this plan for more than 2 years.  They yanked it right out of my contract during the upgrade process with no obvious notice to me (I am sure it is stipulated in the fine print somewhere, but I am a pretty observant person who engineers websites for a living…so it would have to have been PRETTY fine). The reason I received from a customer care rep?  “The iPhone 4S is not compatible with our $5 a month text plan. We do offer a $20/unlimited plan though!”  Let me translate that for you… “We are pretty pissed about iMessage.  We don’t like that you don’t need more than 200 messages a month because you can message others for free with iMessage.  So, we are going to insult your intelligence and make you think it is actually a ‘phone’ compatibility issue, when it is really just us being greedy assholes.  And what better way to top that all off?  We are going to make you upgrade to a ridiculous $20/mo unlimited plan you don’t need if you want to continue using SMS messages!!!  We kick ass right!?”

So…if you need to contact me…and you do not have iMessage, do not text me because I will not receive it.  You can call, email or hit me up through Facebook.  That is it.  I refuse to upgrade to a $20/mo SMS plan.

As soon as my contract is up with AT&T, I will be immediately looking for a new carrier.  I know all of them suck fairly equally, but this is just honestly too much for me to stomach.
